Kai-Tak, the season’s 13th tropical storm, is approaching China’s southern regions, the country’s meteorological authority forecast Tuesday.

Kai-Tak was centered some 560 kilometers southeast of Eluanbi on the southernmost tip of Taiwan, packing sustained winds of 64.8kph and gusts of up to 90kph as of 5pm on Monday.

The storm, moving in a northwesterly direction at a speed 15 to 20 km per hour, will bring rain to southern regions of Taiwan on Wednesday, before approaching coastal areas of Guangdong and Fujian provinces.

The center advised that local authorities around the storm areas should call vessels back to ports, cancel ferry services and evacuate workers on offshore oil platforms to prepare for the approaching storm.
