Sanya taxi drivers to face job loss for refusing to take passengers

Taxi drivers in Sanya will face job loss when found refuse to pick up passengers or deliberately take passengers to scenic spots to get kickbacks, according to a new regulation by the transportation authority.
In early May, the taxi driver Mr. Tang with Sanya Tianxing Passenger Transport Co Ltd. was fired by the company after being exposed for refusing to take passengers during the Spring Festival holiday.
In Sanya, it has become a common practice that taxi drivers have agreements with scenic spots and other large-scale shopping malls for their mutual benefits. Driven by the considerable rebated rates, some taxi drivers will discriminate against or cheat passengers.
Mr.Fu, who has been a taxi driver for 8 years in Sanya, said the punishment won’t do anything unless the government is committed to enforcing the rules.
According to related rules, Sanya residents and tourists are encouraged to file complaints to local transportation authorities against taxi drivers' malicious refusals.
