The local authorities in Sanya recently announced new measures to grant benefits to people from Taiwan.

The steps include extending the maximum validity of Taiwan residents' travel permits to the mainland from one year to two years starting July 25.  In addition, a free service will be offered to Taiwanese who want to update their travel permit documents while visiting the mainland.

The new measures are seen as part of the mainland’s efforts to attract more travelers and visitors from Taiwan and to promote all-round exchanges between two cities in the long run.

Statistics released by Sanya tourism bureau showed that the tourist arrivals from Taiwan reached 23,276 in the previous six months, an increase of 101.72% year on year.

According to local authority, the city government is still working out detailed services to create a favorable tourism environment for Taiwan visitors.
