Sanya has witnessed a slowdown in the tourism growth rate in the first half of this year, according to the city’s latest tourism report.

Released by the local statistics bureau, the report showed a slowdown especially pronounced during May and June.

Sanya is the important overseas tourist source market in Hainan, especially for Russian tours. But this year, the number of Russian tourists in the city has seen negative growth while similar destinations like Thailand and Vietnam have shown impressive gains in tourist arrivals.

For the six-month period, Sanya received 5,345,100 visitors, an increase of 4.4%. The growth rate slowed down slightly bringing the average growth down to 11.29% over the same period of last year. Besides, the growth rate for hotel occupancy rate also fell 6% compared with the previous year.
