Statistics shows that overnight tourist growth rates from February to May this year stood at 4.9%, 10.4%, 5.0% and -4.6% respectively. Sanya received 690,100 overnight tourists in May, down 9.6% from the previous month, which is the first negative growth of 2012.

In addition, the numbers of domestic and inbound tourists visiting Sanya in May stood at 657,400 and 32,700, down 3.8% and 18.4% respectively. The tourism revenue totaled RMB 1.020 billion, down 8.4% from the previous month.

Moreover, the hotel occupancy rate in May stood at 42.5%, a drop of 11.5% against the same period of last year, down 15% month on month.
