Sanya has made great efforts in protecting forest resources, pushing forward afforestation and the development of flower industry over the years. Recently, Sanya was rated as “China’s advanced city in forestation” by the National Aflorestation Environmental Protection Commission, the Ministry of Human Resources & Social Security and the State Forestry Administration.

According to Sanya Forestry Bureau, the artificial afforstation areas in Sanya have reached nearly 10,000 hectares. Moreover, Sanya’s forest coverage has climbed from 38% in 1990 to 68% in 2010.

Since the beginning of 19th century, Sanya has started to construct the “Green Great Wall”, the costal protection belt. In 2007, Sanya authorities pushed forwards a proposal to recover costal protection belt in 3 to 5 years with an investment of RMB 54 million. Sanya completed the construction of costal protection belt just in 2 years.

Meanwhile, Sanya also invest big in developing flower industry. To date, Sanya has built orchid greenhouses for 4000 hectares with a total investment of RMB 160 million. What’s more, Sanya government has invested RMB 41.33 million in constructing Yalong Bay Rose Demonstrative Base.
