Sanya drowning case
Some tourists swam in the sea of the Dadonghai Scenic Spot regardless of bad weather.

As a tropical costal city, Sanya is a good place for swimmers all the year round. However, tragedies often occur as people risk their lives and swim in dangerous waters. According to Sanya Maritime Search and Rescue Center, there had been 70 maritime distress alerts by the 18th June this year, and 14 amongst this number saw people drowned or declared missing

A large number of citizens and tourists go swimming daily at Dadonghai and Sanya Bay. Although the number of life savers has increased over the past 2 years, fatalities in the sea still occur. On 9th June, a member of staff in a hotel was overcome by the waves while swimming in the sea. Another tragedy happened on 18th June after 4 students of Sanya Yulin Ba Yi Middle School went swimming at Dadonghai, and 2 of them drowned.

Statistics from Sanya Maritime Search and Rescue Center show Dadonghai, Sanya bay, Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay are the four most dangerous waters in Sanya, especially Dadonghai and Sanya Bay. This is because swimmers can easily be pulled out to sea by the strong currents created by the swirl flows in these areas.

Those who want to swim in the sea should bear in mind that they should stay away from prohibited waters and waters with seaweeds, reefs and undercurrents and avoid going swimming in stormy or foggy weather.
