Sanya hotel to be fined for operating without fire safety certificate

The Sanya Maritime Resort Hotel was investigated for lack of a “fire safety certificate” from the Sanya Fire Department half a month ago. Recently, the 5-star hotel was caught open for business as usual.
According to an informer, the Sanya Maritime Resort Hotel, which is located at the Dadonghai district, advertised itself as a would-be 5-star hotel with a reference room rate as high as RMB 1270.
A reporter made a secret inquiry to the hotel and was told that the 5-star hotel was on soft opening at present. The cheapest hotel room rate stood at RMB 700. As the reporter explained his identity and tried to learn more about the hotel, the general manger of the hotel rejected his interview directly.
According to the Sanya Fire Department, the Sanya Maritime Resort Hotel was investigated over unlicensed operation on 4th June, and further investigation is under way. Hotels open for business without a fire safety certificate could be fined RMB 10,000 to RMB 150,000 and suspended for rectifications, said an officer.
