Recently, a traditional wedding was held in a family of Miao nationality in Qiongzhong County, south China’s Hainan Province. The bridegroom belongs to Miao Nationality and the bride belongs to Li Nationality. However, their wedding was held with the customs of Miao Nationality.

The couple has a seven-year-old son. The cost of the wedding was borne by the bridegroom. At their wedding, the couple wore Miao costumes. All the residents in their village attended the wedding, and the major activity of the wedding was drinking and dancing.

The Miao ethnic minority has a population of 8,940,116 which is larger than most of minority groups in China. After immigration in a long history, today they live mainly in Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan, Hubei, Hainan Provinces and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Prefecture. They are divided into several branches, such as Black Hmong, White Hmong, Striped Hmong, etc.

On the Wedding Ceremony of Miao People, the new couple should propose a toast to the elders of his family and their guests while them receiving their congratulations. The new couple should feed their parents with the first bowl of rice before the banquet started. The girls who accompany the bride could also make fun of the bridegroom even at such a formal moment. All the gusts here would like to see such kind of jokes since they think that jokes are important parts of an impressive wedding.
