Sanya plans to invest RMB1 billion to upgrade the roads around Luhuitou Square to relieve the traffic pressure.

The project is scheduled to start in August, 2012 and will be open to traffic in January, 2014.

During the 18-month construction, a temporary road will be set up to connect Yuya Road and Luhuitou Square.

According to the plans, an underground vehicle passageway and an underground pedestrian passageway will be built at the crossroad of Yuya Road and Nanbianhai Road starting from the junction between Yuya Road and Fenghuang Road. There will therefore be a 2-tier vehicle passageway and an underground pedestrian passageway in Luhuitou Square.

In December 2011, the Sanya government made plans to develop the underground space of Luhuitou Squre. A three-tier underground shopping mall with an area of 400,000 square meters and a sunken courtyard will be built to link the Sanya Duty-free Store, which will become a new business center in Sanya.
