Recently, Sanya busted 22 illegal B&B Inns in a citywide crackdown, according to the Sanya Tourism Development Committee.

There are 862 hotels in Sanya, amongst which 460 are B&B Inns, with 220 of these using residential buildings as hotels.

Landlords were fined a minimum of RMB500 and a 10-day detention for the illegal hotel conversions.

In one case, the Sanya Public Security Bureau busted a B&B Inn named “Sea Blue Home” which is located in the garden community in Dadonghai. The hotel has been operating for nearly 3 years without relevant certificates.

The illegal hotels are “death traps”, with too many beds in a room and no fire alarms. The police warned tourists to think twice when hunting for a so-called bargain.
