Zhouzhuang wins global award for best ecotourism in Paris, Sanya misses out
Zhouzhuang won the award for the "Global Best Eco-tourism Scenic Spot" and will receive it on June 18 in Paris. After joining the list of World’s 10 Most Beautiful Towns, the "Global Best Eco-tourism Scenic Spots" award is evaluated by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and Global Forum on Human Settlements(GFHS).
Other cities in China also joined the awards lists, including Lijiang, Sanya, Yichun, Dali, Wuxi and Emei mountain, Putuo mountain, and Zhaoqing star lake scenic area.
Zhouzhuang has set out with the goal of "protection and development" and has established an "ancient town protection committee" since it opened to tourists. The local traditional environmental materials were used to decorate the ancient architecture. Zhouzhuang has been a pioneer in environmental protection, energy-saving, emission-reduction and low-carbon tourism.
