Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing won its first offshore leg Thursday, claiming Leg 7 from Miami to Lisbon, Portugal, by finishing five minutes ahead of fast-charging Groupama. Groupama’s second-place finish allowed it to overtake Telefonica for the overall lead in the race with two offshore legs and three in-port races remaining.

PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG was third and Telefonica was fourth. CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand was a minute behind in fifth, followed by Sanya.

Groupama now leads Telefonica by 3 points, the Spanish team dropping from the top spot for the first time since its victory on Leg 1 from Alicante, Spain, to Cape Town, South Africa, in November. PUMA moved into third, 12 points behind the leader.
