The offshore duty-free stores in Sanya and Haikou received 1.01 million shoppers between 20th April, 2011 and 27th May, 2012.

According to Haikou Customs, duty-free stores in Hainan sold 3.246 million products, with a total sales volume of RMB2.044 billion.

The Sanya Duty-free Store received 840,000 shoppers and saw a sales volume of RMB1.86 billion in 13 months, while the duty-free store at Haikou Meilan International Airport received 170,000 shoppers and saw a sales volume of 184 million in 5 months.

This year, duty-free shopping is still booming in Hainan. Numbers of shoppers reached 367,000 between March and May in 2012, with a sales volume of RMB730 million, up 49.2% and 48.9% respectively year-on-year.
