Occupancy rates of Sanya star-rated hotels falls to 30% in off season.

While the weather in Sanya keeps warming up, tourism market in this tropical city cools down on the contrary. The occupancy rates of most hotels in Sanya have fallen to 30% since mid March, especially the hotels at Yalong Bay, Sanya Bay and Dadonghai. Most of hotels have lowered room rates to attract more tourists in off season.

According to the sales departments of several star-rated hotels at Yalong Bay, Sanya Bay and Dadonghai, the average hotel occupancy rate has fallen to 30% since mid March this year. The low occupancy rate is due to the off season, less Sanya flights and the slump of travel agencies, according to a staff of Ritz-Carlton Hotel at Yalong Bay.

Nonetheless, hotels in Sanya urban area still see high hotel occupancy rates despite the off season. Hotel occupancy rate of Sanya Golden Phoenix Hotel even reaches 70%. Hotels in this area have less rooms, and most of their customers are meeting attendees or individual visitors, therefore, hotel occupancy rates in urban area remain high.

In order to stimulate Sanya’s hotel market and attract more visitors, many hotels in Sanya have launched promotion policies and some even give discount of up to 90%. Sea view rooms priced at RMB 2,000 per night originally in Sanya Xiangtou Intime Hotel are now sold at RMB958 per night. What’s more, deluxe rooms priced at RMB 8,888 per night are now sold at RMB 1,216 in Sanya Ritz-Carlton Hotel at Yalong Bay.
