Construction of the Haikou Central Coach Terminal project is to start by the end of the year, according to reports.

The project, with a total investment of 500 million Yuan, covers around 78.75Mu. It is one of the key projects in Hainan supported by the provincial government.

Haikou currently has 5 coach stations. However, the existing stations are not able to meet the demand now as the number of tourists visiting the city has surged in recent years. The city has long been in dire need of a new modernized station, local government officials have said.

After completion, the coach terminal will transport an average of around 20,000 passengers every day.

Demolition and land acquisition work for the project has already been completed.
