A farmer in Hainan was shocked when one of his hens laid a giant egg which is four times as big as an average chicken egg, and 41 grams heavier than the previous world record holder.

The egg is 8.9cm long and weighs 189g. It’s now being kept by the owner in Dingcheng Town, Ding’an County.

The owner said the hen is very ordinary, and he raised it for nearly half a year with rice and it had laid double-yolk eggs before the big surprise.

The hen was too exhausted to stand up after the blood-covered egg finally came out after a half-day painful birth. It didn’t recover in the following two days.

According to the Guinness World Records, the largest chicken egg was a five-yolk egg in Ukraine which weighed nearly 148g.
