Hotels in Xiamen have been in hot demand  this week as the 3-day May Day holiday is approaching.

According to the latest data provided by a leading travel portal in China, the number of hotel reservations in Hong Kong was leading, followed by Xiamen, Sanya and Lijiang before the holiday.

Hotel prices in Xiamen and Lijiang soared 60% to 90% and 30% to 40% respectively since this week. Instead of a price surge, hotels in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen witnessed a price drop.

In terms of short-distance outbound tours, Southeast Asian countries have been the most favorite outbound travel destinations for Xiamen tourists following the visa-free policy.

The number of Xiamen tourists heading for Southeast Asian countries during this 3-day holiday accounted for nearly 72% of the total booking figure, according to the figure released by tuniu.com.

Meanwhile, price of air tickets in hot tourist destinations including Qingdao, Xiamen, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Sanya and Guangzhou saw an increase of 20%-30%.
