Twenty needy girls received student subsidies of 5,000 yuan (US$ 816) each from the Hainan Women’s Federation in Haikou City, capital of south China’s Hainan Province, on August 23, 2013.

The Hainan Women’s Federation recently launched a charity project providing financial aid to needy female students. The federation will also allocate money every year to help a batch of outstanding young girls gain a college education.

The Hainan Modern Women and Infants Hospital has donated 20,000 yuan (US$ 3,266) to the program to sponsor four girls who will enter medical colleges in 2013 and has established a fund to sponsor girls in similar situations every year. In addition, the hospital will provide opportunities to the sponsored students to work part-time jobs at the hospital and will offer qualified students a permanent job at the hospital after graduation.

President of Hainan Women’s Federation Liu Jin said that she hoped the sponsored students would work hard and repay society in the future.
