Sanya to invest RMB3b in construction of Haitang Bay duty-free shopping center
The duty-free commercial center and duty-free businesses are the most concerned part of the environmental impact assessment of Sanya Haitang Bay International Shopping Center after the project was launched on 6th April.
The project includes a duty-free shopping center, hotels, underground parking garage and ancillary buildings with a total investment of up to RMB3.45 billion ($545 million), according to the Hainan Department of Land & Environment Resources.
The Haitang Bay International Shopping Center will cover a land of 82,250 square meters and will be built and managed by China International Travel Service Corporation Limited.
It is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2014 after a 2-year construction.
It even eyes the center of personalized luxury products in its third phase of development.
Beginning 20th April, 2011, Hainan Island became a duty-free zone where foreign and domestic visitors are allowed to spend up to 5,000 yuan on imported commodities without paying taxes.
