On 22nd Mar, a flight that took off from Wenzhou heading towards Haikou, was forced to land at Sanya Phoenix Airport due to a broken kite.

The Airport Command Center of Sanya Meilan International Airport received a massage from flight HU799A that a broken kite was found 50 meters above the airport runway at 13:30 p.m. on 22nd Mar. The black and white broken kite hovered over the air due to the strong wind. Later, it was shot down by a water tender and bird scaring gun.

Affected by the broken kite, flight HU7628 from Wenzhou to Haikou which should have landed at Haikou Meilan International Airport at 15:20 p.m. was forced to land at Sanya Phoenix Airport. Meanwhile, many other flights were forced to change landing direction until the broken kite was shot down.

According to Meilan International Airport, the stray kite could have been a threat to aircrafts. It would not only cause poor pilot visibility, but also cause engine trouble. Citizens and visitors should maintain flight safety especially during the up coming Tom Sweeping Day
