A new university named University of London South China will be established in Haikou, capital city of Hainan, according to reports.

The university, which is to be jointly established by the Municipal Government of Haikou, the South China University of Technology (SCUT), and the University of London,will specialize in tourism and management majors, offering undergraduate, graduate and further education programs.

Attended by the party secretary of Hainan province Luo Baoming, the principal of University of London Adrian Smith , and the president of SCUT Wang Yingjun, a signing ceremony of the joint project was held in Haikou on Thursday.

"As the biggest special economic zone in China, Hainan is blessed with a first-class ecological environment. And the State Council has also launched a number of special opening policies for Hainan.The establishment of the University of London South China in Haikou, will bring high-quality higher education resources into Hainan from two top universities and enhance the internationalization level of Hainan”, said Wang Yingjun at the signing ceremony.
