Despite the overcharging scandals, the Sanya tourist industry in Feb still remained its popularity. The hospitality sector received 36,300 guests daily last month, setting a historic record high, said Jiang Sixian, the Vice Governor of Hainan Province.

In February, the higher reservations can be attributed to several factors. Compared to the crowded Spring Festival, some tourists choose to spend their vacations during the post-holiday period. At the same time, large sports event like the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 also attracted a lot of domestic and international tourists.
 
However, Jiang mentioned that to make a big progress to build the city an international tourist resort, Sanya still has a long way to go.

Besides, he said the city will spare no effort to crackdown on illegal businesses in the tourist market to further regulate the market on public expectations.
