Thanks to direct flights and improving ties between Taiwan and Sanya, the increasing number of tourists from Taiwan is making their way to select Sanya as their destination, said Xu Zhenlin, the Vice Mayor of the Sanya Municipal Government at the 15th cross-straits tourism exchange conference held in Haikou.
 
In 2011, 27,479 tourists from Taiwan visited Sanya, showing a year-on-year increase of 55%. The hike in the number is much higher than those of other tourist source markets.
 
In addition, weekly direct flights between Hainan and Taiwan also expanding to 15 flights, allowing even more Taiwanese visitors to take trips through this convenient transportation. In 2011, the number of tourists from Taiwan to Hainan was up 55% to reaching 105,400.
 
Impressed by Sanya’s abundant tropical tourist resources, Taiwan tourist authorities said they plan to further strengthen cooperation for the promotion of tourism between the two regions in the near future.
