Sanya seafood stalls see business decline after overcharging scandal
Many owners of the seafood restaurants at Sanya Bay Rd and Youyi Rd said their businesses are greatly affected by the scandalous media coverage of overcharging tourists during the Spring Festival Golden Week holiday.
With the end of Spring Festival, many tourists are going back to the mainland for work. They can only have one in ten of total turnover compared to the same period of previous year, some seafood stalls owners expressed their concerns that the overcharging rackets distracts some customers.
At Youyi Road, a tourist couple from Gaungdong told a reporter after knowing the overcharging rackets happened in the city, they pay more attention to ordering the dishes at seafood restaurants and they will ask for the prices clearly before they pay the bill.
At present, to better regulate the seafood prices across the city, many seafood stalls are required to place their price listing to the public which are approved by the local departments.
