Sanya hotels face labor shortage after Spring Festival holiday
The hospitality industry in Sanya is facing a labor shortage recently as many hotels find it difficult to recruit staff after the Spring Festival holiday, reports jinghua.cn.
Fourteen 5-star hotels will be opened in Sanya and its neighboring areas in 2012, providing 11,200 hotel rooms and more than 20,000 job opportunities, according to the relevant department of Sanya.
More than 30 star-rated hotels attended a job fair on 10th Feb, seeking 40-84 employees including restaurant waiters, restaurant managers, bellboys, drivers, laundry managers, SPA receptionists and physical therapists. However, there were much fewer applicants than expected. The post-holiday recruitment has been a usual headache for hotel HR managers.
According to the Sanya Human Resources Bureau, the living standards and consumption in Sanya are increasing in recent years but the average salaries in the hospitality industry are lagging behind, and overtime and overload working are partly blamed for the labor shortage in the hospitality industry.
