Haikou Meilan Airport was awarded the “Carbon-Value Innovative Value Award” for its unique and outstanding contribution in low-carbon development at the 6th World Economic and Environmental Conference (WEC) on June 30th in Beijing.

The 6th WEC was sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and International Energy Conservation Environmental Protection Association (IEEPA).

With a low-carbon, green-growth concept aimed at preserving the environment, the unique garden-like airport has a public green area of 5 million square meters, and its green coverage reaches above 99.6%.

To solve the problem of wasting of water resources, the airport established a sewage treatment station which covers more than 20,000 sqm and also arranged sewage processing operators to conduct regular supervision on the sewer’s PH, suspended solids and COD levels to ensure the wastewater discharge adheres to national standards.
