Sanya Phoenix International Airport saw an upsurge in passenger traffic and flights during the 3-day New Year’s holiday, indicating a strong growth in the Sanya tourism market this year, reports hinews.cn.
According to statistics from the airport, during 1st – 3rd January, 858 flights took off and landed at the airport, the number of passengers hit 114,916 and the cargo throughput reached 1478.13 tons, up 26.74%, 19.06% and 9.74% respectively compared to the same period last year.
Sanya, as China’s only tropical coastal tourist city and one of the hottest tourist destinations, has attracted millions of tourists from home and abroad to spend their vacations. The local tourism economy has seen a steady growth thanks to the construction of the Hainan international tourism island.
