Xiamen saw an influx of tourists during the 3-day New Year’s Day thanks to the nice weather, warm temperature, and its rich tourism resources.

The city received nearly 400,000 tourists from home and abroad on 1st Jan, 2012, the first of the holiday. Gulangyu Island, Huandao Road, Xiayue Hill, hot springs resorts and Buddhist temples attracted flocks of tourists to enjoy the holiday.

Xiamen was ranked second on the list of mainland China’s most popular tourist destinations during the 3-day New Year holiday, according to ctrip.com, China’s largest online travel portal.

Sanya, a tropical tourist city on Hainan Island, remains the most favorite place for holiday-makers, followed by Xiamen, Lijiang, Beijing, Shanghai, Harbin, Xi’an, Chengdu, Guilin and Hangzhou.

In addition, Hong Kong and Cambodia’s Angkor Wat and post-flooded Thailand are the most popular outbound tourist destinations for Xiamen tourists.
