Sanya hotel room rate hikes for CNY to remain stable
Hotel room rates in Sanya during the upcoming Spring Festival are set to remain stable following recent moves by the government to curb price hikes.
Compared with the unreasonably skyrocketing room rates during the 2010 Spring Festival, the government’s price intervention rules are aiming to rebuild Sanya's reputation as the preferred island destination for foreign and local tourists.
According to the rules, room rates are not allowed to rise by more than 10 percent from the average rates last year. For room rates over 6,600 yuan per night, excluding suites and villas, it has to first gain approval from local authorities.
The number of tourists is increasing from late October. Statistics from Ctrip.com showed that individual tourists visiting Sanya in November increased 40% over the same period last year.
During Spring Festival, higher hotel room rates are still mainly concentrated in the Yalong Bay regions. For those who want to spend an affordable holiday, hotels in downtown or newly opened ones are also good choices.
