To curb hotel room rates hikes by hotels, the Sanya Price Control Bureau has set up price regulations for the upcoming Spring Festival to build the city into a preferred destination for foreign and domestic tourists.

According to the regulation, the duration of the price control will start from Jan 22 and go to Jan 28, 2012. Hotels are not permitted to raise room rates by more than 10 percent from the average rates in 2010.

For room rates over 6,600 yuan per night, excluding those of suites and villas, the hotel has to first gain approval from local authorities.

The hotels are required to submit their room rates to local authorities before Dec. 15 and those which gain approval will be released to the public through the official website.

Besides, local authorities will strengthen inspection on the hotels in key regions during the upcoming holiday season. Any hotels found violating price regulations will be punished.
