Sanya will make a bid for the right to host the 22nd World Orchid Conference and Exhibition scheduled for 2017, according to Sanya municipal government said on Monday.

Noting that the World Orchid Conference is the highest-level global event on orchid cultivation and development, Sanya officials said that hosting such an event will help further upgrade the worldwide competitiveness of Sanya's orchid industry as well as promote the international image of tourist destination.

Currently, a total of 8 cities from 7 countries are in line to apply to the 2017 World Orchid Conference.

The 20th World Orchid Conference will be hosted by Singapore on Nov. 13 this year, which is the city's second time playing host and South Africa has won the bid for the orchid calendar in 2014.

"Sanya has long been reputed as a kingdom of orchids and built the largest tropical orchid-themed park, Sanya Orchid World. We are qualified to sponsor the international orchid congress and exhibition,” said a responsible official.
