Haikou has been given the official approval to host the 2014 UCLG World Council, according to local authority on June 9th.


The baton for the UCLG World Council next year was passed to Haikou at the World Executive Board Meeting of World Organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) held in Lyon, France on June 7th.


Haikou is the second city following Guangzhou in China to host such an annual conference.


UCLG, the largest world organization of local governments, is committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation in various fields among cities around the world.


Approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the national association, Haikou has officially joined the organization in October 2007, being part of the UCLG World Council and Executive Board members.
