20 teams to compete for 2011 Tour de Hainan Int’l Road Cycling Race
A total of 220 athletes from 20 teams including UCI continental professional teams, continental teams and national teams will compete in the 2011 Tour of Hainan International Road Cycling Race starting from Oct.20 to 28, according to organizing committee.
The race, having been successfully held for three years since 2006, has upgraded to 2.HC level, top in Asia. This year, athletes from the twenty teams will compete for the total prize money of 380,000 US dollars, the highest in the historical record.
This race includes nine stages. The opening stage will start in Sanya on Thursday this week and travel north to Wuzhishan and a new final stage ending with cycling around Sanya will be also included in the race.
Covering 1,456 km through the island, the race will have 18 cities and towns involved. To show the beauty of Hainan, 220 athletes will be presented with an overall classification of beautiful landscape on the island along the routes.
