Heavy rains will continue lashing the eastern part of Hainan Island over the next three days after the National Day holiday, according to the provincial weather station.
 
Over the past two days, over 67 townships on the eastern part of Hainan including Haikou, Wenchang, Qionghai, Ding’an, Wanning, Lingshui, Baoting, Tunchang and Danzhou have suffered from heavy rains.
 
More than 160 villages have been flooded in Haikou and 24,057 people were forced to evacuate from their homes.
 
The local weather station forecast that heavy rains will continue to sweep eastern parts of Hainan over the next three days and the maximum precipitation in some parts will reach 200 to 300 mm.
 
Authorities warned the public of potential landslides and floods in some low-lying areas. They also pointed out the heavy rains will bring inconveniences to public transport as many tourists start to get packed for holiday return trips.
