Ferry and rail services linking Hainan and the mainland halted operation on Monday as the strong tropical storm Neglae hit the island.
 
From 12 p.m. Monday, the Hainan maritime bureau ordered a suspension of all navigation across the Qiongzhou Strait due to the strong gales brought by Neglae, said an official with the passenger transportation at the port of Haikou.
 
Rail services on ferries crossing Qiongzhou Strait between Sanya and Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu and Guangzhou in the mainland were also suspended or changed to set off from Guangzhou on Tuesday.
 
According to Sanya Phoenix Airport, 12 flights scheduled to depart from and arrive at Sanya airport on Tuesday were confirmed to be cancelled.
