21 'Toufu' buildings that cheat the government of compensation have been demolished by Sanya law enforcement officers at the intersection of the Sanya Loop Expressway on September 23.

These poorly built structures, involving 9,000 square meters, are called tofu buildings because of their poor quality concrete and lack of re-enforcing steel beams.

Lured by huge profits, many local residents joined in hand with private developers to build these illegal buildings within the land that government uses for city development.

Sanya Loop Expressway, spanning a length of 30.4 km, is one of the key projects of the national road network construction as well as of local government traffic infrastructure.
