200 cyclists go cycling around Sanya on World Car Free Day
 
On 22nd September, 2011, World Car Free Day, over 200 bicycle lovers from various industries in Sanya went cycling around the city to advocate low-carbon and green transportation, reports the Nanhai Website.
 
“Green transportation is the future of city development. Citizens should protect the environment by ways of taking mass transit, cycling or walking,” said an official concerned at the starting ceremony in Haiyue Square.
 
At the same time, Sanya’s 1st cycling team was set up with 15 formal teammates and 10 substitutes, who have made great achievements in national cycling amateur competitions and will represent Sanya for future cycling competitions.
 
World Car Free Day is on September 22 every year, which encourages motorists to give up their car for a day. Organized events are held in some cities in China in recent years, such as Chengdu, Shanghai, Beijing and Wuhan.
