A heavy rain hit Sanya on Tuesday, causing traffic congestion on many main roads for almost three hours, reports 0898.net.
 
The downpour, which started at 2 pm am, caused flash floods on several main roads between 4 pm to 6 pm.
 
Several main roads were inundated. In some areas, floodwaters came up to peoples knees. Many cars had to drive cautiously on the flooded roads.
 
Roads with severe traffic congestion included the entire section of Yuya Avenue, Sanya Bay Road, Jinjiling Road, Phoenix Road and Yingbin Road.
 
Over 170 traffic policemen were dispatched to smooth the traffic order. Traffic jams on most roads did not cause road accidents as many motorists and drivers were aware of the traffic situation and moved slowly.
