Mini-bus fare hike drives passengers away in Sanya
Passengers using mini-bus services face a ticket fare rise from one yuan to two yuan after the increase came into force from September 9, reports 0898.net.
According to the local transport department, the specialty of its routes and high operating cost are the causes of the bus fare increase.
Many residents complained that the increase is an unreasonable move, saying they reflected a lack of concern for passengers.
But the fare increase will not affect concessionary fares for the elderly and students.
"Urban traffic congestion has been the major concern that the government is committing to resolving. Increasing the fares will cut the number of passengers down, making the traffic problem even worse in Sanya, resident Mr. Hu who spoke out against the fare increase.
As the mini-bus services shares most of the routes with other normal buses, many residents have decided to give up taking them and have another option to get access to their destination.
