Sanya sees decline in mooncake sales ahead of Mid-Autumn Festival
With Mid-Autumn Festival drawing near, sales of mooncakes at Sanya stores and supermarkets have seen a decline, reports 0898.net.
There are a variety of mooncake brands being displayed on the shelves at the stores but reporters found few customers showing their interests in them.
One reason for a shrinking mooncake market is that there are now many other kinds of gift sets on the market. Instead of spending money on the luxury packaging of mooncakes, customers prefer to buy other nutritional items as gifts for this Mid-Autumn Festival.
Many producers admitted mooncake sales this year are not as good as previous years.
The analysts said another reason for the mooncake consumption decline can be attributed to the rising prices ingredients. This year’s prices at the outset were 10% to 20% higher than previous years.
