Moon cakes in Sanya sell at higher prices ahead of Mid-Autumn Festival
The moon cake market in Sanya has made an early start for this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on September 12 with higher prices due to the rising fillings cost and soaring prices of commodities, reports 0898.net.
Many well-known local bakeries in the Hongsha Area have started production for the Mid-Autumn Festival at the end of August, two weeks ahead of the festival.
Various brands of moon cakes sold in the market have already had prices marked up by 10% to 20%, compared to last year’s holiday period.
"Flour, eggs and sweetened bean paste prices have all rose. It is normal the price hikes will be between10% and 20% over last year," many producers said.
Reports showed that most residents will be less impacted by the moon cake price hikes during the holiday period which is only celebrated once a year.
