Teng Jianghe, 37, becomes 1st Chinese in Team Sanya crew for VOR
The Volvo Ocean Race will break new ground when it gets underway in Alicante, Spain in late October with a Chinese sailor taking part for the first time.
Teng Jianghe, a 37-year-old businessman who goes by the nickname Tiger, only started sailing last year, but already he has been named on the Team Sanya crew for the 2011-12 yachting classic.
Team Sanya became the first full Chinese entry in the Volvo Ocean Race when they launched their campaign in Beijing in June and skipper Mike Sanderson immediately began the search for the "Yao Ming of sailing" to form part of his crew.
After a five-week trial with Team Sanya, including a tough baptism in the Fastnet Race earlier this month, Sanderson was sufficiently impressed to offer him the chance of a lifetime.
