In front of the Pullman Oceanview Sanya Bay Resort and Spa, a sewage pipe was exposed and found discharging black water into Sanya Bay after a cylinder-like well was damaged by the previous heavy rains, reports hainan.net.
 
The discharged water, dark black and accompanied by a disgusting smell, flows into and mixes with the blue sea water which makes the nearby ocean a dirty look.
 
“I can’t believe the discharged water had washed out a large hole on the beautiful beach,” an old snowbird from Chongqing Municipality said.
 
According to local authorities, the pipe was initially used for collecting and discharging rainwater during heavy rains.
 
Due to economic development, the coasts in Sanya Bay are densely populated with hotels and seafood restaurants. In order to avoid discovery by authorities, many of them are mixing to use the same pipe to directly discharge combined seweage into the ocean.
 
Currently, the local government shows great concern over the situation. A comprehensive sewage management campaign is ongoing and will last till the end of this year to reduce environmental pollution in Sanya Bay.
