Sanya death toll from road accidents accounts for 50% in Jan-June, 2011
23 people were killed in 47 fatal accidents in Sanya in the first half of this year, the Safety Supervision Bureau announced on July 30, reports hinews.cn.
The deaths were registered between January 1 and June 30. The fatal accidents causes 23 deaths and 65 injured with direct economic loss of 8.05 million yuan,
Among the deaths, road deaths show a steadily rising graph, exceeding 50% in total lives lost since the beginning of January 1 when compared with the same period last year.
Authorities said most of the traffic accidents are attributed to various driving offences during the first six months including forced retrograde, overloading and risky lane change.
In addition, improper road design and poor maintenance sites in G98 Highway, Sanya Bay Road, Jiefang Road, Yinbing Road and Jiyang Avenue easily lead to car accidents and traffic congestion.
