Sanya to put 200 more taxis on roads before Oct 1, 2011
The local transport bureau said the city will see changes made to the taxi service throughout 2011 as the bureau agreed to the proposal of adding 200 new taxis on the roads before the National Day holiday, reports hinews.cn.
The proposal, being put forward on the taxi fare-adjustment hearing, aims to help solve the taxi shortage in downtown areas.
All new taxis are painted grey and blue with the signs of the Sanya tourism logo on the dome lights. Unlike the old diesel-powered ones, the new taxis use dual-fuel engines, which can reduce noise when operating.
Mr. Zhang, who has been driving a taxi in Sanya for 8 years, said he was very satisfied with the new taxi and happy to witness major changes in the business.
“Before we know the operating time of the new taxis, many taxi drivers are trying the new ones around the city to get used to it,” he said.
