Sanya Duty-free Store sees tourists surge during summer vacation
The local tourism industry continues to get a boost as Sanya Duty-free Store is becoming a favorite spot for domestic travelers during the summer vacation, reports hinew.cn.
After Hainan’s duty-free policy took effect on April 20, a total of 900,000 tourists had visited Sanya Duty-free Store, with daily volume of tourists reaching 115,000.
Most goods like cosmetics and perfumes with a price below 5,000 yuan are more attractive to customers and often selling at an amazing speed. They are cheaper than the regular 10%-35% in Shanghai or other domestic duty free stores.
More high-end items like jewelry, watches and luxury-brand clothes do not contribute as much as expected to sales figures.
"I used to buy luxury goods in Hong Kong. But now I can buy them in Sanya. It’s cheaper and at the same time we can enjoy the beautiful sceneries during the summer vacation," Mr. Zhang, a tourist from Chongqing City.
