Sanya taxi flag-fall fare to be adjusted to RMB8 from September 1
According to the results of the fare-adjustment hearing, Sanya will introduce a new taxi flag-fall fare starting September 1st, 2011. The flag-fall fare in Sanya will be raised by 3 yuan from 5 yuan to 8 yuan, reports xinhuanet.com.
Under the new fare structure, trip distances above 2 km will still remain the current rate of 2 yuan per km. The waiting time will be raised from the current 2 cents for above 10 minutes to 4 cents for above 5 minutes.
The government also canceled the surcharge of 5 yuan for every taxi trip during public holidays like National holiday and Spring Festival holiday.
After the introduction of the new taxi flag-fall fare, taxi operators will see an increase in their income. Drivers who share one taxi should be able to earn an extra 600 yuan a month from the 2 yuan fare raise.
Referring to the current difficulty of getting taxies in the city center, this fare revamp will better ensure more taxis will go to areas where they are needed most and at the times they are wanted most.
