Sanya Phoenix Airport to be built into important int’l hub in south of China
In order to catch up with the development of International Tourism Island, a blueprint to convert Sanya Phoenix Airport into an international hub for passenger airlines in the south of China will be submitted to Civil Aviation Administration of China for approval, reports xinhuanet.com.
According to the plan, Sanya Phoenix Airport will have the capacity to handle 20 milllion passengers by 2020 under the current single runway. By 2030, the airport will handle 30 million passengers annually and 42 aircrafts per hour.
Passenger numbers in Sanya Phoenix Airport reached near 9.3 million in 2010 and ranked 17th on the list of 175 domestic airports operation. Besides, the average annual growth rate of passenger throughout reached 30%, which stayed on the top across the nation.
As far as the infrastructure at the airport is concerned, the plan has listed the special details in terms of the airfield, terminal, cargo area, commercial facilities to enhance the airport capacity to handle big events.
