Haikou government this year will invest 35 million yuan to support the development of the exhibition industry. By 2015, the number of exhibition events is expected to reach 500 each year.

In 2011, the city’s large-scale exhibition center, the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center was put into operation, which successfully held the 2012 China Winter Trade Fair, China Sports Tourism Expo as well as the 8th Pan-Pearl River Delta Conference.

According to official statistics, there were more than 200 exhibitions and conferences held in Haikou last year, bringing nearly 4,300 exhibition enterprises.

The rapid development of the exhibition industry has been thought to boost local hospitality which is one part of the effort to build Hainan into an international tourism island.

In 2013, Haikou is planning to host nearly 220 exhibition and conference events including the 10th China International Logistics Festival, 4th China Gene Industry Conference and China International Animation Industry Expo.
